Number of bottles of wine sold each month at the 50,000 square foot New York City 23rd street location of Eataly, the emporium of everything deliciously edible and drinkable that’s Italian. Ok, a server told me this, so it’s not an officially confirmed statistic. But judging from the number of people ordering bottles of wine there just about all day long, I can believe it. What’s Italian for joie de vivre?

What U.S. city/region has the greatest concentration of Michelin 3-star restaurants?

A. New York City and Long Island

B. New Orleans and southern Louisiana

C. San Francisco Bay Area

D. Los Angeles Metropolitan Area

In 2021, six San Francisco Bay Area restaurants were awarded 3 stars, Michelin’s highest honor. The 3-star honorees are: Atelier Crenn, Benu, Quince, The French Laundry, Single Thread, and Manresa. There are only 13 three-star restaurants throughout the U.S. (the six previously mentioned, plus five in New York, one in Chicago, and one in Virginia). Additionally, only six restaurants in the U.S. made the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list. Benu and Atelier Crenn in San Francisco and Single Thread in Healdsburg ranked 28th, 48th and 37th, respectively.
