The year that Châteauneuf-du-Pape became the first wine AOC of France. Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) is the detailed system of regulations outlining where and how the top wines of France are made. The French use this certification not just for wine, but also for other agricultural products including some cheeses, meats and butters.
