The number of years since the first woman winemaker in Oregon, Lynn Penner-Ash, started, in 1988. Today, Oregon has more women winemakers than California, despite having one-twenty-seventh the grape acreage. Indeed, in this one U.S. state devoted to pinot noir, women account for 10 percent of all winemakers. The question seems obvious: Do women choose pinot noir? Or does itchoose them?
