Number of plays that Shakespeare wrote before he died four hundred years ago (this month). Each of the Bard’s plays include multiple mentions of alcoholic drinks–usually ale or beer, although wine was more common when kings and noblemen were doing the drinking. The most famous wine drinker of all was the character Falstaff, who repeatedly drank sacke–a kind of dry Sherry.
