The number of corks produced each year by the leading Portuguese cork company Amorim. This year, thanks to new technologies, the company began selling corks guaranteed to be free of cork taint (TCA). In general, as a result of better sanitation and production methods, the instances of “corkedness” have steadily declined, from an estimated 8% of all corks ten years ago, to a mere 1% today.
