On the rosé explosion

Not so long ago, when I was asked if I wanted a glass of rosé, I always said sure. There weren’t that many rosés back then and the quality was uniformly pretty high. Now? There are so many rosés on the market that it’s hard to believe we drink anything else. Alas, the rosé explosion has had a down side. There’s now a lot of bad rosé around—wines that are skunky, dank, bitter, too high in alcohol, and (the final insult) expensive. I don’t care if a million wineries jump on the rosé bandwagon.
