A Time to Remember…

This coming Tuesday—May 24—will be the 46th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris tasting conducted by the late Steven Spurrier and Patricia Gallagher, who ran Paris’ first wine school, L’Academie du Vin. The tasting is now considered the pivotal event that put California wine on the international map. Warren Winiarski (whose Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet came in first in the blind tasting) has called the Judgment California’s “Copernican moment.”  The Judgment of Paris was, however, just one of the amazing wine experiences in Steven Spurrier’s exciting and remarkable life. If you have not already read it, I encourage you to get a copy of his autobiography Steven Spurrier—A Life in Wine, published by Academie du Vin Library, 2020. You can purchase the book with a special $5 discount HERE. Simply enter “WINESPEED5” at checkout.
