Number of millions of pounds of blisteringly hot red jalapeño chiles usually used each year by California-based Huy Fong Foods to make Sriracha, the fiery condiment that has exploded in popularity in the US. Extreme drought in Mexico has caused severe shortages of the chiles, causing the company to temporarily halt production, according to the New York Times. Huy Fong Sriracha (in signature red squeeze bottles with green tops) is now being hoarded. (Our stash is safely tucked away in the office kitchen cabinet).
