Amount in millions of U.S. dollars that Portuguese cork company Amorim spent over the last five years to develop a new technology to detect TCA taint in corks. Called NDTech (Non Detectable Technology), the process uses gas chromatography to scan individual corks for TCA and rejects any with more than 0.5 nanograms—equivalent to one drop of water in 800 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Amorim manufactures 4 billion corks a year.
