Number of catastrophic fires that Napa Valley’s luxurious resort Meadowood has faced in its 40-year history. The first fire, in 1984, destroyed the clubhouse that owner Bill Harlan had purchased along with the property in 1978. This fall, while the fire known as the Glass Fire consumed the resort’s 3-Michelin star restaurant and many luxury cabins, the spa, pools, and fitness center survived. Bill Harlan vows to rebuild like last time: “We’ve been there now 40 years, and we plan on being there 40 more.”
