Amount (in ounces) by which, in the past decade, the official Champagne bottle has been lightened as part of the region’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. The official Champagne bottle now weighs 29 ounces (down from 44 ounces at the turn of the 20th century). A further reduction to 28 ounces is planned by some producers. Champagne was one of the first wine regions in the world to assess its carbon footprint (in 2003).
