Years since the founding of the VDP, the organization that was begun two decades ago and has transformed the German wine industry by focusing on dry wines. Made up of more than two hundred of the most prestigious estates of Germany, the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) devised a Burgundy-like system for classifying German vineyards and wines. The best wines—all dry—have the initials “GG” on their labels. GG stands for Grosses Gewächs (“Great Growth”).
