Number of acres in California’s newest (as of yesterday) AVA (American Viticultural Area)—the Petaluma Gap. The region, located in southern Sonoma and Marin counties, is known for its tremendous cool winds which blow in through the gap in the Coastal Mountains. Of the 4,000 planted acres, 75% is pinot noir.
