Korbel ranks third in retail sales, behind Veuve Clicquot and Moët & Chandon. Korbel began in Sonoma in the 1890s when three Czechoslovakian immigrants named Korbel made California’s first traditional-method sparkling wines. The brothers initially used chasselas, riesling, and muscatel, all popular at the time.
