Number of years that a cork oak tree must grow before the bark can be used for the first time to produce cork stoppers for wine bottles. After the initial period, cork trees can be harvested for their bark every nine years. There are 1.8 million acres of cork oak trees in Portugal which supplies most of the world’s cork.
