Number of millions of trees planted in 12 hours in Ethiopia—a world record. The country’s “Green Legacy Initiative” is aimed at improving soil health, combating land degradation, and helping stem the effects of climate change since trees absorb carbon dioxide from the air. According to Science magazine, planting a trillion new trees could remove roughly 205 billion tons of carbon dioxide from our atmosphere.
