Number of specific appellations within the Loire Valley, the best known of which include Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Vouvray, Anjou, and Muscadet. With 170,000 acres of vineyards, the region is the third largest wine area in France. Admired for its châteaux complete with turrets, moats, and draw bridges, the Loire has 4,000 wineries, most of which produce white wine.
