Number of millions of bottles of wine fraudulently sold as Côtes du Rhône in 2017, enough to fill 13 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The fraud was revealed last week by France’s official consumer fraud agency. Some of the cheap wine was passed off as the even higher AOC designation Châteauneuf-du-Pape. French authorities have not said who committed the crime, nor where they sourced the wine.
