Number of wineries in Oregon. For the sake of comparison, in 1970, there were just 5 wineries in Oregon. Back then there were a mere 35 acres of vineyard. Today there are over 28,000 acres planted with wine grapes. The northern Willamette Valley (including the six appellations within it Chehalem Mountains, Dundee Hills, Eola-Amity Hills, McMinnville, Ribbon Ridge, and Yamhill-Carlton District) accounts for 75% of all the grapes crushed in Oregon.
