Number of ancient indigenous grape varieties currently grown in Greece. The country’s unique geography, including 4000 islands and mostly mountainous terrain, has led to significant genetic diversity. Sadly, however, scores of other Greek varieties are thought to have gone extinct over the last century due to the lack of a market for the wines made from them.
