Percentage of the world’s almonds produced by California. More than 70% are exported which, last year, made them California’s top agricultural export worth about $4.7 billion. This year, the picture is bleak. Global supply chain problems have already left 1.3 billion pounds of almonds undelivered, according to the Los Angeles Times. Besides this woe, almonds—a water guzzling crop—face consumer backlash in their drought-stricken home state.
