Number of Black-owned wine brands currently in South Africa, according to the South Africa Wine Industry Transformation Unit and as reported in Africa News. Under the racially segregated policy of apartheid, South Africa’s wine industry was effectively white-only. With apartheid’s end in 1991, doors into the industry slowly creaked open. Today, momentum has increased as the number of Black wine professionals have formed a critical mass for change.
