A varietal wine is made principally from one variety of grapes. A bottle of cabernet sauvignon, for example, is a varietal wine made from the grape variety cabernet sauvignon. By law in the United States, if a grape variety is named on a wine label, the wine itself must be composed of least 75% the variety named.
