Trincadeira Preta (trin-ka-DARE-rah PRAY-ta)

A darkly colored grape that probably originated in central Portugal and is now grown all over southern Portugal, where it makes rustic wines. Sometimes known by the synonym tinta amarela, “black yellow.”
