Teinturier is the name given to grapes that have red-colored pulp (rather than white-colored pulp which is typical). Which of the following is a teinturier grape?

A. Alicante Bouschet

B. Schioppettino

C. Tannat

D. Monastrell

A.

Although it seems like all red grapes should have red pulp, only a few do. Alicante Bouschet is a deeply colored teinturier grape. Once grown widely in California as well as in Europe, Alicante Bouschet was (and still is) added to blends for its amazingly deep color. The grape is of French origin. Each of the other grapes here is a red grape with white pulp.
