MASSICAN Sauvignon Blanc 2021
(Napa Valley, CA) $32
Massican’s Sauvignon is so pure and fresh that it’s evocative of crisp, cold mountain air in a forest of pines and firs. The wine’s racy acidity is spliced by starbursts of minerals, and the flavors—lime zest, sage, and peaches—come in delicious waves. In short, this is a sensational taut and lively Sauvignon that owner/winemaker Dan Petroski says was inspired by the Sauvignon Blancs of northern Italy. It’s also not particularly “green,” but instead has what I think of as meadow-like scents. Massican is one of the only (maybe the only) Napa Valley winery devoted entirely to white wine. The devotion shows. (12.7% abv).
