PRIX Reserve "Weir Family Vineyards" Syrah 2009
(Napa Valley, CA) $65
With a last name like mine, you can bet that “Irish Catholic neighborhood” is somewhere in the personal history. Nonetheless, I’ve done my share of Kosher wine tastings over the years. So in honor of Passover (which starts today), I want to share a terrific wine that is indeed Kosher for Passover. Prix is owned by Hagafen Cellars in the Napa Valley (top producers of Kosher wine), and the syrah has deep, dark fruit and a solid core of richness. But Prix also has that wild, meaty, minerally side that’s evocative of all of the best syrahs. Passover may be the right first time to try this, but the second time should be with herb-crusted lamb on the grill this summer.
