VINA GARCES SILVA Boya Sauvignon Blanc 2015
(Leyda Valley, Chile) $18
Not so long ago, sauvignon blanc from Chile was what the French would call vin (very) ordinaire. The top wines like Boya have changed that. This delicious sauvignon blanc is cracklingly fresh, as if someone infused lime juice with minerals. Spicy and peppery flavors dance around, giving the wine a whirling refreshingness. How can a wine be this light yet dramatic? This expansive yet incisive? The Leyda Valley—a relatively new wine region in Chile—sits due west of Santiago, shivering above the cold currents of the Pacific Ocean.
