The year the first woman, Mary Ann Graf, graduated from the viticulture and enology program at UC Davis. She majored in fermentation science. The path she forged paved the way for many more women in the wine industry, and by the 1990s, women made up half of the students in the UC Davies viticulture and enology program. UC Davis subsequently became a model for other institutions around the world that teach winemaking.
