Minimum percentage by which Tuscany’s olive oil production is expected to be down this fall. The region—famous for its peppery green extra virgin olive oil—is suffering from months of such extreme drought that even largely drought-resistant olive trees are falling victim. According to reporting by Reuters, scorching sun and lack of water have caused the olive trees’ tiny flowers to fall off before those flowers could be pollinated to become olives.
