Cumulative amount (in U.S. dollars) that wineries in Lodi, California, paid in bonuses to grape growers in 2016 for following Lodi’s Sustainable Winegrowing Program. Known as “Lodi Rules,” the program certifies environment-friendly sustainable practices related to soils, water, and the land, with emphasis on reducing pesticide risk to farm workers and consumers, as well as to birds, bees, and small animals. Launched in 2005, the program was the first such sustainable wine growing certification in the U.S.
